COVID-19 Updates

The current COVID-19 (also known as the Corona virus) Pandemic is a crisis that has changed how employers, schools, businesses and even homes are functioning. It has caused anxiety, grief, loss, fear and anger. Many are overwhelmed, unsure of what the next few weeks or months will bring. This page will provide information on alternatives to face to face counseling, information on the significant precautions this office is taking to protect our clients, as well as resource information from the CDC and World Health Organization. We are following these guidelines as well as those from the local health department to protect our clients.

Family Empowerment Services provides Telehealth (audio-visual on line) counseling so you can have counseling in the safety of your home . Due to the COVID-19 Crisis many insurance companies are covering the cost of these services on a temporary basis. Later when the crisis is resolved. Telecounseling will again be billed directly to the client if you choose not to resume face to face services. If you have any questions regarding coverage, please ask us or consult your insurance company.

Family Empowerment Services is not currently seeing face to face clients. We are preparing to re-open. When we do re-open please be aware of the following new procedures and precautions to protect you and your family:

  1. If you or a family member are sick please do not come. The late cancellation fee is waived for illness.
  2. All clients and staff will be required to wear masks until further notice.
  3. Clients will be asked to wait in their car until their scheduled appointment time.
  4. Sessions will promptly stop at the end of 45 minutes for individuals, 60 minutes for couples/families. This will allow time to prepare for the next client and to reduce the likelihood of unnecessary contact between clients.
  5. The waiting room will be reserved for families only. We ask that only people who are being seen (and a parent/guardian, if a child) come to the appointment.
  6. The counseling room, waiting area and client restroom are cleaned and disinfected after each client.
  7. Play therapy items are cleaned and disinfected after each child. Both therapist and child will use hand sanitizer before and after play therapy. Fresh gloves will be used by therapist and offered to older children and teens.
